The Governments of Finland and the Palestinian Authority concluded
on August 3, 2004 the Agreement of Water and Sanitation Program, with
value of 2 million euros. The Agreement was signed by Mr. Keijo Ruokoranta,
Head of the Finnish Representative Office and Dr. Jihad Al-Wazir,
Assistant Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Planning.
The main objective of the Program is to improve the supply of safe
drinking water as well as better sanitation services in the southern
West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
Finland will assist the Palestinian Water Authority (PWA) in the
implementation of several investment projects financed by the World
Bank and other donors, by providing both technical assistance and
direct financing to the PWA.. The main focus of the Program will
be in the implementation of the World Bank’s Emergency Water
and Sanitation Projects in the West Bank and Gaza. The 3-year Program
is launched in August 2004.
