The
Israeli-Palestinian Interim Agreement in 1995 provides for possibility
for foreign states to establish representative offices in the West
Bank and Gaza Strip.
On
January 1st,1999, the Finnish Government opened the Representative
Office of Finland in Ramallah.
The
Representative Office of Finland
promotes the bilateral relations between the Finnish Government
and the Palestinian Authority. It follows up on the constantly changing
situation and on the developments regarding the Peace Process. This
is done through cooperation with EU member states and through direct
contact with the Palestinian Authority as well as other Palestinian
partners.
In
addition to this, the Representative Office of Finland aims at ensuring
the sustainability of Finnish development cooperation with the Palestinians.
Moreover, the Office aspires to strengthen local culture through
supporting the Bethlehem Culture and Conference Center.
Finally,
the Representative Office of Finland is accredited to handle Finnish
relations towards Palestinian refugees through UNRWA.
